How Vermont geography shapes a group trip

Vermont stretches about 117 miles north from Brattleboro to Burlington as the crow flies across the markets we cover. That distance is the first thing we look at on a multi-city itinerary, because it decides whether one chauffeur can legally finish the day.

The tightest group of Vermont markets on this page is around Barre, which has 7 other published markets within fifty miles. That is the part of the state where a group can realistically visit three towns in an evening without spending the evening in the vehicle.

Across the 10 Vermont markets with a Census reference point, the combined land area is about 239 square miles of incorporated place.

We publish 10 Vermont markets on this hub, 10 of them with a Census reference point precise enough to measure distance from. Those coordinates are what the nearest-market distances on every city page are computed against, and they come from the 2024 Gazetteer rather than from us.

What distinguishes the Vermont markets we run

These are the Vermont cities where our own notes carry the most specific detail. Each line is what actually differs about the work there.

  • Burlington: requests here cluster around ECHO Leahy Center, and pickups run heaviest in Church Street Marketplace.
  • Stowe: requests here cluster around Stowe Mountain Resort, and pickups run heaviest in Stowe Village (Main Street).
  • Montpelier: airport work goes through BTV.
  • Rutland: pickups run heaviest in Downtown Rutland.
  • Barre: the Census places it at 30.6 square miles of land.
  • Bennington: the Census places it at 41.9 square miles of land.
  • Brattleboro: the Census places it at 32.1 square miles of land.
  • Essex Junction: the Census places it at 4.6 square miles of land.

Airports we transfer from in Vermont

Airport work is quoted differently from an hourly charter: commercial-vehicle access fees, the staging area a coach has to use, and the wait window if a flight slips are all named separately on the total rather than folded into an hourly rate.

  • BTVNamed in our notes for Burlington, Montpelier

What should a Vermont itinerary call out?

I-89 connects Burlington to the New Hampshire border. I-91 runs along the Connecticut River on the eastern border. VT-100 is the iconic scenic route through the Green Mountains. Roads can be extremely icy in winter, and many are narrow and winding.

Montpelier, Vermont is the smallest state capital in the U.S. by population (about 8,000) and the only state capital without a McDonald's.

When Vermont books up

Fall foliage (late September–mid-October) and ski season (December–March) is when Vermont bookings stack up. Outside that window we have more of the fleet free, which usually means a better vehicle for the same money rather than the same vehicle for less. Rates here sit mid-range for us. The date does more to move a quote than the market does: a Saturday in the peak window and a Tuesday in the off-season are genuinely different jobs.

Weather and alcohol rules we plan around

Humid continental climate with warm summers averaging 80°F and cold winters around 10°F. Heavy snowfall from November through April supports the ski industry. Fall foliage is world-renowned, peaking late September to mid-October. "Mud season" occurs in April as snow melts.

Alcohol, open-container and service rules vary by county, and we plan the itinerary inside them. Ask us to spell out what applies to your run and we will put it in your contract. Vermont allows alcohol sales at grocery stores, convenience stores, and state-run liquor stores. Craft breweries and cideries are abundant. Bars serve until 2 AM. Charter vehicles may serve alcohol to passengers of legal age.
